Meera's First Bottle

This past Tuesday Meera had her first bottle. We're committed to pumping (even though I detest it!) so that the boys (all three of them, but Braydon especially) can feed the baby. Braydon was on cloud 9 feeding his girl the other night. Luckily she took to the bottle just great and was happy enough to go right back to nursing for her next feed a couple hours later. She's had a couple of bottles since. At age 4 weeks, Meera is still eating every 2-3 hours round the clock. A bottle here and there is a welcome relief to all involved!!!!!!!!

I can attest to the importance of the dad participating in feeding infants! John's relationship to our girls has been so strong since they were newborns and I think a big thing is that he and I both fed the girls (we *both* did everything). This is hard for breastfeeding mothers, so kudos to you for making it work and being able to make it work. And too cute feeding a newborn!

We are all thinking of you!

Jess & Laura -- Thanks for the support re: bottle feeding breast-fed babies! It is *hard* to find THAT support. So, thanks!
And Laura-- yes, we can attest to it too! Having both fed both our boys when they were babies, there is no fooling us re: the importance of attachment regarding feeding!!! Having had twins, Braydon knows WAY TOO MUCH about it all to miss out on the chance to feed his baby!!! :) Thanks for the twin support! :)

Yay Meera! What a smart girl! I think introducing the bottle now is the best idea! Waiting much longer usually results in a baby who is not very interested in making the transition...

I tend to agree with you on the pumping...i couldn't stand it!

Pumping.....who invented that medieval torture device? (Probably some poor new Mom who wanted some rest!) I think it is great that Braydon and the boys get to help feed Meera Grace. Feeding time is so special for bonding, and simply connecting. Disregard the La Leche fianatics and do what is right for your family.
