I love that book! My girls have "Papa, Papa" and, of course, my favorite, "Mama, Mama" and they are the best books ever! You GO, Meera, for working on your fine motor skills with such a great book!

My son was the same way. I remember his first airplane flight when he was about the same age. A fellow passenger said they had never seen a baby so engrossed in a book before. Today he is an avid reader at age 14. Go, Meera!

This is great. You might also point to objects/animals and name them so she connects your words to what you are reading.

Oh anonymous...don't you think Professor Heather knows this? Nice suggestion ;)

My goodness, Meera has to be the most fun baby. Thanks for sharing this video, Braydon. Love the little song too...babies have a way of showing us a little Jesus.

I have to piggyback on Mark and Sarah. Come on now Anonymous-- do you really think that Heather doesn't know how to read books to her children??????????????????? If she isn't pointing out the animals she's doing that for a reason. Haven't you noticed how intentional they are with their parenting???? Who do you think you are anyway? Get a grip, or at least read this blog more closely. The girl has a PhD. And one of her specialties is sociology of childhood (and as a sociology PhD student myself I can tell you that she's very well respected nationally and internationally)!!! Come on now!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Sarah & Sherri,
Thanks for the support girlfriends! I don't know you but I feel the love! ;)
My opinion: there's a time and a place in a child's development for each and every thing. Meera is *5 MONTHS OLD* -- she does *NOT* need me pushing vocab on her!!!! (She really doesn't even need books at all at this point). My opinion: at this age, reading the book to Meera is all about the experience, the bonding, the ritual, the basic socialization to reading/language, and her hearing the intonation/tone/rythm of the sound of it. I intentionally read to her the way I do. Over time our reading will evolve. For now, it is meant to be a nice ritual before nap-time. She has plenty of time later on to learn the names of all the animals!!! LOL!

As I am already on another blog's NO-Fly Zone list for directing a serious rant at another insensitive know-it-all's comments, I'll suppress my baser instincts and keep my counsel. HOWEVER...
May I say WOW! to Miss Meera the Mystifying Turner of Pages? Just too cute. She listens, then taps the page impatiently so she can turn it to the next vignette. It made me think of Anne Bancroft as Annie Sullivan, pumping water onto Helen Keller's hand in The Miracle Worker. I kid you not, I was waiting for Miss M to say "Wah wah water," just like the character in the play.
Your little sweetie is ahead of the curve--like your boys. I tremble with fear for the mischief that awaits you guys--LOL.

Dear MorMor, I've never seen a baby that young do that! Is this normal for a five month old??? Does anyone out there know the answer? Please do tell!!!
